Defend, O Lord, your servant with your heavenly grace, that she may continue yours for ever, and daily increase in your Holy Spirit more and more, until she comes to your everlasting kingdom.
(Confirmation, The Book of Common Prayer, p. 148)
Many Christians are baptized as infants or young children, with parents and godparents making promises and commitments of faith for them.
The sacrament of confirmation is an opportunity for individuals to make a mature commitment to Christ – a responsibility that was once held by others on their behalf – and to reinvigorate their spiritual life.
Confirmation for teens and adults is preceded by a period of preparation, including learning more about prayer, their faith tradition, and the Church. During the confirmation rite, confirmands renew their baptismal vows and the bishop lays hands and prays for the Holy Spirit to come upon them and to provide them with continuing strength.
Our Youth Program includes a class for 6-9th graders that meets monthly on the 2nd or 3rd Sundays of the month, and an Interfaith fellowship for 8-12th graders focusing on community outreach and mission that meets first Sundays at Danvers churches on a rotating basis.
