Holy Week and Easter-- Sunday, March 24 to Sunday, March 31 -- observed by Christians around the world, serves as a time of deep reflection, spiritual renewal, and commemoration surrounding the events leading to Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection.
Here are some key aspects of Holy Week at All Saints this year. All are welcome to attend in person (46 Cherry Street, Danvers, Directly across from Danvers Town Hall) or on Zoom https://zoom.us/j/134596872 Meeting ID: 134 596 872.
1. The Journey to Redemption:
o Palm Sunday, March 24, 2024 marks Jesus’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, cheered by people who laid palm leaves on the ground as He rode in on a donkey. This event symbolizes hope and anticipation. At All Saints on Sunday at 9:30 AM, The Rev. Brock Baker will lead the service which will feature a dramatic reading of The Passion narrative according to St. Mark.
o This year because some parishioners usually involved with the preparations are out of town, All Saints will not offer its Maundy Thursday special meal and service, which commemorate the foot washing and the Last Supper, emphasizing Jesus’s love, humility, and the institution of the Eucharist.
o Good Friday solemnly remembers the crucifixion of Jesus at Calvary. It is a day of mourning, acknowledging Jesus’s sacrifice for humanity’s sins. At All Saints, the steeple bell will toll 33 times at
3 PM to commemorate the most sacred time: “Then Jesus gave a loud cry and breathed his last.” (Mark 15:37).
o Holy Saturday is a time of waiting and contemplation as Christians reflect on Jesus’ body resting in the tomb.
o Finally, on Easter Sunday, March 30 at 9:30 AM, in the All Saints sanctuary, joy and celebration will herald the resurrection of Jesus and His victory over sin and death that brings hope and eternal life. “We will shake the rafters with our songs and prayers of praise and thanksgiving,” says The Rev. Brock Baker, who officiates. “Jesus is Alive! “The stone was rolled back: the tomb was empty: and the world was changed forever! Amen.
